On-line Learning or Online Education are a sub-set of e-Learning methologies which refer to purely web-based learning.

M-Learning is a recently coined term which refers to the use of mobile technologies and devices, such as PDAs and Mobile Phones, within the e-Learning environment.

Blended Learning is a term commonly used when e-Learning methodologies are used in conjunction with traditional face-to-face teaching.

In more advanced, broad or complex subject fields, the use of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is becoming increasingly popular, in which all aspects of a course, including interaction with tutors and other students, are handled through a single user interface.
